The position is open for foreign students in the Marie-Curie Initial Training Network in the project “Bio-Business” working on “Automatic monitoring of pig aggression (sows and fattening pigs)”. The applicant will work in an international environment with the aim to get a graduation as PhD. Main tasks of the PhD work will be:1. Identification of biological/physical characteristics (identification and labelling) of pigbehaviour2. Development of mathematical modelling techniques3. Validation of the efficiency of the method under real field conditions.Qualifications:1. degree in Veterinary Medicine or a M.Sc. or comparable degree in a field related to Biology or Agricultural Sciences within the last five years2. background in ethology, computer modelling and/or monitoring3. strong interest in the development of innovative methods and Precision Livestock Farming4. proficiency in spoken and written English5. motivated, enthusiastic, and participative work outlook to achieve team goals.According to the FP7 Marie-Curie Initial Training Networks funding guidelines of the EC the candidate must not have resided or carried out their main activity (work, studies, etc) in Germany for more than 12 months in the 3 years immediately prior to the date of the PhD work.The position is starting as soon as possible. Monthly living allowances will be calculated on the basis of the specific candidate profile in accordance with a civil service position (TVL E 13/2).
