Postdoc Position in Quantitative Genetics of Behavior

A post-doctoral research associate position is available in Dr. Jennifer Gleason’s lab, University of Kansas, to examine the genetic architecture of Drosophila courtship song and cuticular hydrocarbons, two important traits to species recognition, and the genetics of preferences for their traits.
The work will use recombinant inbred lines between D. simulans and D. sechellia. The postdoc will perform behavioral assays, coordinate genotyping of lines, conduct microarray experiments, perform statistical analyses of the resulting data and write journal articles. Specific skills associated with the project include PCR and basic molecular biology skills, behavioral analyses, Drosophila culturing, quantitative trait analysis and supervision of undergraduate students working on the project.

Required qualifications are: 1) a PhD. in Biology, Genetics, Evolutionary Biology, or related field. 2) Experience in one of the following areas: molecular biology, quantitative genetics, Drosophila genetics, or behavioral genetics. 3) Good statistical, skills as well as verbal and written communication skills demonstrated by materials submitted through the application process, work experience, letters of reference, and/or previous publication.
