from the dept.
Looking for volunteer research assistants to study tadpole behavior and growth in tropical Panama. Live in a biologically-rich rainforest on the banks of the Panama Canal!
OPPORTUNITY TO STUDY TADPOLE BEHAVIOR IN PANAMA -

I am recruiting volunteer research assistants to study tadpole schooling and parental care in a Neotropical frog, Leptodactylus insularum at the Smithsonian Tropical Research Institute in Panama. L. insularum provides an interesting mix of social behaviors for an amphibian, and assistants will be trained in behavioral and ecological field methods in a biologically rich rainforest environment. Project will focus on growth and development rates in tadpoles, both in the field and mesocosm experiments. Assistants are needed for 3 month periods from mid-June through mid-December (exact dates negotiable). Assistants will have an incredible opportunity to learn a variety of research techniques in a tropical, scientific community.
