PhD Scholarships in Psychology and Animal Behaviour
Exeter Graduate Fellowships
The School of Psychology is seeking to appoint a number of PhD
students starting in October 2009. The stipend will be approximately
£13,000 p.a plus full payment of tuition fees at Home/EU rates (for
non EU citizen, there is an additional tuition charge of £8,500k pa).
These positions are available to applicants intending to register for
an MPhil/PhD in October 2009.
The School of Psychology is an exciting and vibrant place to study,
consistently rated in the top 10 Psychology departments in the UK,
with particular research strengths in animal behaviour. The
successful applicants will be expected to participate in up to 180
hours of undergraduate teaching-related duties per year, including
leading small group tutorials, demonstrating, running the statistical
helpdesk and marking. The award will be made for 3 years initially,
subject to satisfactory performance, but will be renewable thereafter
for a further 12 months, thus providing 'guaranteed' financial support
in the final year in which the PhD will have to be completed.
We strongly recommend that applicants identify a potential supervisor
and discuss potential research projects with the potential supervisor
before applying. (See the School's Research<http://psychology.exeter.ac.uk/resgrp/index.shtml
> page and potential supervisors' home pages<http://psychology.exeter.ac.uk/pgresinterest.shtml

Subject: Job Search - research-based conservation position preferred
I am a recent M.S. graduate (Conservation Biology and Management) in
search
of a research-based conservation position. I have more than 7 years of
wildlife biology experience, with a focus on animal behavior, habitat
use,
and island ecology. I have conducted field studies in the United
States and
abroad. As part of my thesis work at the University of Michigan, I
developed and led a study of the foraging and breeding ecology of an
endangered hummingbird species on the remote Juan Fernández Islands,
Chile.
I have worked in all phases of scientific research including project
goals
and objectives, study design, data collection and analysis, and
communication and reporting. My experiences include animal live-
trapping
and radio telemetry, habitat restoration, and community capacity-
building.
I am proficient in grant writing, project planning, managing budgets,
and
building partnerships with stakeholders. Please email if you have a
position that aligns with my experiences/interests, and I would be
happy to
provide my resume. Thanks.

Hello colleagues:
This message is to advertise a scientific "happening" (Woodstoich 2009;
http://meme.biology.tohoku.ac.jp/woodstoich/index.html) related to
ecological stoichiometry planned for this coming summer on a country
farm near Sendai City in northeastern Japan. The event is targeted
towards postdoctoral and advanced PhD students who are working on any
aspect of ecological/biological stoichiometry in any type of ecosystem
or with any type of organism. The event is going to be dynamic, novel,
and its products will be rapidly disseminated in Oikos. The Global COE
Program "Center for Ecosystem Management Adapting to Global Change" and
Tohoku University, Japan (http://memo.biology.tohoku.ac.jp/gcoe) are
providing funding to cover the costs of attendance for all accepted
participants.
To apply, interested parties should provide a 1-2 page cover letter
describing their past, ongoing, and/or planned work in
ecological/biological stoichiometry and related fields, and what s/he
hopes to contribute to the workshop, and a 2 page curriculum vitae. The
materials should be sent to Hideyuki Doi (woodstoich2009 at googlemail.com)
by February 15, 2009. Further details are available through our website
(http://meme.biology.tohoku.ac.jp/woodstoich/) or by emailing Hideyuki.
