Forager |
Amber Waves Software introduces Forager, a
foraging (feeding behavior) simulation software
package. This program enables users to set up animal
behavior models based on any of several current
foraging concepts. Users can graphically design the
foraging environment and specify behavior rules. In
addition to its modeling capabilities, Forager
contains tools for creating publication quality
reports, graphs, and maps.

HomeRange
|
Jack Bradbury and Robert Lobsterman Huber have
developed mac programs for the ananlysis of spatial
data, particularly for use in animal behavior.
Recently, we have combined our efforts. It was our
goal to provide a general set of tools for an
analysis of movement patterns and spatial
distributions.
HomeRange is at Version 2.1.4 for PPC as well as
for 68K Macs. You can download a self-extracting
archive with both programs and sample data files.

Mac Programs by J.
Bradbury & S.Vehrencamp

|
This page describes and provides access to three
Macintosh programs that may be of use to
researchers in animal behavior or field ecology:
ANTELOPE, THE KERNEL, and SINGIT! These are
available for free to interested users. The authors
have sporadic time to devote to their modification
and upgrading, so free use comes at the expense of
little support. Both are offered under copyright by
the Regents of the University of California.

JWatcher
|
Watcher is a powerful tool for the quantitative
analysis of behaviour. It can be used to address any
theoretical problem that requires a complex sequence
of actions to be scored by a human
observer. JWatcher is written in Java[TM] and is
hence not dependent on a particular operating
system. It will run on almost any microcomputer
capable of providing a Java Virtual Machine[TM] and
has been tested on both Windows[TM] and
Macintosh[TM] systems.

SOCPROG
|
Programs for the analysis of animal social structure (SOCPROG)
Written by Hal Whitehead
SOCPROG is a series of MATLAB programs written by Hal Whitehead for
analyzing data on social structure (as well as populations and
movements) based on individual identifications. The programs are
designed to be easy to use, most input is done through graphical user
interfaces (i.e. windows with things to click on), and most things can
be done without any knowledge of MATLAB (although this helps for
custom options, figuring out errors, making your own extensions,
etc.). The programs are also designed to be pretty flexible so you can
tailor the analyses to your data and hypotheses.

A datarecorder for behavioural biologists working in the field
Outdoor Explorer is a softwaretool

observations, weather conditions, temperature etc.) with a Palm
handheldcomputer.

UPresent®
& UGather®
|
UPresent ® is a free multimedia presentation
application designed for flexible, interactive
control of presentations.
UGather® is a free multimedia database
manager that can catalog images, QuickTime movies,
and audio files and store information related to
each file.
Currently, the applications are only available
for the MacOS (7.1 or higher) operating system. Any
680x0 or PowerPC computer will run UGather and
UPresent.
Windows version. We are currently working on
porting UPresent® to run under Windows 95/98
and Windows NT. We have no specific time frame for
when it will be available, but hopefully by
midsummer 2000.
