from the dept. I am seeking one volunteer research assistant to help with a PhD project on a marine fish species on Vancouver Island, BC. This work will require a commitment of approximately 2 months, from late May to late July 2010. Project: This study investigates the reproductive behaviours of the plainfin midshipman (Porichthy notatus). Behavioural observations, sample collections, and field experiments will be conducted. This work is highly dependent on the tides, and will require long working days during low tide event, with lighter work in between low tides. Other working conditions include early mornings and muddy, wet, and rocky terrain in variable weather conditions. Previous field work experience is desirable but not necessary. Applicants should be very enthusiastic about field work, reliable, and in good physical condition. There will be opportunities to conduct independent projects. Accommodations and food will be supplied.
