from the dept.
We seek a highly motivated student to develop and carry out a field study on the social organization of the Taiwan field vole (Microtus kikuchii).

The research will be part of a M.S. thesis project supervised by Dr. Loren Hayes at the University of Louisiana at Monroe. Pending funding, the field work will be carried out in Taiwan with Dr. Y. Kirk Lin (National Taiwan University) during June-August 2009. The student will be expected to write a NSF EAPSI proposal under the guidance of Loren Hayes during his/her first semester at the University of Louisiana at Monroe. NSF EAPSI proposal details and instructions are available at http://www.nsf.gov/pubs/2007/nsf07584/nsf07584.htm.

We seek individuals with excellent writing skills, a strong background in biology, ability to work in a multicultural setting, and a desire to conduct publishable research. Preference will be given to students who can compose a 500 word preliminary research proposal based on information provided by the co-investigators as part of an application for admission to the University of Louisiana at Monroe. Prospective applicants must be U.S. citizens.

If you are interested in this pursuit, please contact Loren Hayes (lhayes@ulm.edu) and Kirk Lin (kirklin@ntu.edu.tw) by late March 2008. Please include an updated CV and an unofficial transcript of undergraduate courses in your email. Completed applications should be submitted to the University of Louisiana at Monroe Graduate Program and Department of Biology by 30 April 2008. Applications and instructions can be found at: http://www.ulm.edu/gradschool/.
