from the dept. Funding for a Ph.D. student is available to study the conservation ecology of lake sturgeon in Manitoba. This research is a component of a larger program that is evaluating strategies to mitigate the impact of hydroelectric activity on lake sturgeon in Manitoba, a project led by Dr. Stephen Peake with Drs. Mark Abrahams and Gary Anderson. The goal of this Ph.D. project is to study a newly introduced population of lake sturgeon in the Assiniboine River as a model system for developing recovery strategies for this species. Three years of funding are guaranteed at $19,000 per year for three years beginning May 2008. This position will be based out of the Ocean Sciences Center (Memorial University of Newfoundland) in the laboratory of Dr. Mark Abrahams (Mark_Abrahams@Umanitoba.ca).
