BYLAWS (Article IV, Section 3):
- Promote quality instruction and training in animal behavior.
- Shall determine the recipient of the Animal Behavior Society Distinguished Teaching Award.
- Meet, when feasible, at the annual convention.
POLICY (Section 20 c):
Revision of the Guide to Undergraduate and Graduate Programs in Animal Behavior publication to be done every year. (Guide was renamed at EC meeting 2006.)
ADDITIONAL:
- Answer inquiries on education-related matters (e.g., textbooks, lab manuals, summer courses, equipment, graduate programs, lab exercises, etc.).
- Compile data, edit, publish, and distribute Guide to Undergraduate and Graduate Programs in Animal Behavior publication via the ABS website.
- Conduct surveys on matters of current concern in animal behavior education (e.g., job searches, distribution of jobs, etc.).
- Propose and sponsor workshops, symposia and special sessions at the annual meeting on topics of educational relevance (e.g., effective slide preparation and presentations, resume construction, job interviews strategies, approaches to teaching animal behavior, etc.). This is done in conjunction with the Program Officers.
- Update and distribute brochure on "Careers in Animal Behavior", either electronically or on paper.
- Consider, conduct background research, and prepare recommendations for the Executive Committee on topics of educational relevance (e.g., slide and other media file repository in animal behavior, career brochures in animal behavior, etc.).
- Serve as liaison with other education committees in allied organizations (AAAS, ASZ, NABT, CELS, NSTA).
- Periodically publish lists of texts (both current and those of historical importance), lab manuals and other learning materials, and journals devoted to animal behavior, as well as information on specialized summer courses or opportunities in animal behavior online and in the ABS Newsletter.
- Organize and judge the Genesis Poster Award for the best undergraduate poster at the annual meeting.
- Organize and conduct the Children's Book Award.
- Submit annual report to the Executive Committee.
- Send annual report and relevant materials to Historian, on paper or electronically. This should include: correspondence with Education Committee and Executive Committee members and workshop/symposium-related matters; data and questionnaires for GUGPAB; and copies of completed products, such as Guide to Undergraduate and Graduate Programs in Animal Behavior, Careers in Animal Behavior brochure, Laboratory Exercises in Animal Behavior, and programs for workshops/symposia.
