Additional Tips for PowerPoint Users

Tips for using a CD-Rom

Be sure to format your CD so that it can be read by ALL computers, not just the software that created the CD. Save your presentation file using your own surname ( avoid names such as ABStalk ). Macintosh users should test their presentation on a PC prior to the meeting to be certain the format is compatible with Windows 2000 and Office 2000 and posterior versions of these.

Write your name and the day (Sunday, Monday, etc.), time and auditorium ( I, II, or III ), on the CD.

If your presentation includes a video clip, be certain that the clip is inserted directly into your Powerpoint presentation, and that the clip is saved as a separate file on the same CD (preferably, both on the same folder). Both files will have to be downloaded at the time of your presentation, please be sure to inform the AV consultant at the time of loading your presentation onto the laptop hard-disk.

All presentations will be run from the laptop hard drive in your room and not from your CD. Please plan and organize your presentation so it can be quickly copied to the laptop hard drive.

We strongly urge participants to preview their presentations in the preview room to ensure all animations and video clips are functioning properly.

If your presentation appears to be excessively large (e.g. 60 MB) you might try the following suggestions: Reduce file size in PowerPoint (note this link will take you to MasterView International, a site that produces monthly newsletter focusing on designing and managing effective PowerPoint presentations for international audiences). Please note that there will be no ZIP drives available, thus all presentations must be burned onto a CD.
