From: Irene Pepperberg <imp@biosci.arizona.edu>

We now have an ABS Legislative Alert Network that is separate from the
ABSnet. The intention of this new group is to provide colleagues in
Animal Behavior with news of United State congressional bills that will
affect their research capabilities and, on occasion, have general
importance for broader topics such as conservation. Thus, I will try to
send out alerts or forward messages about pending legislation concerning
NSF and NIH appropriations and the status of bills regarding endangered
species and habitats; recipients can then make appropriate calls or write
letters to Washington D.C.

I would like to conduct some studies using wild rats (preferably Rattus
norvegicus). The IACUC here is understandably very concerned about the
possible pathogens that locally trapped rats may be carrying. If anyone
has expertise in establishing populations of "clean", disease free rats or
has such a population and would be willing to help us establish a colony,
please contact me by email.

Thanks in advance.
